So contaminants in tap water will tend to bond with the carbon block filter. Activation increases the carbon surface We "activate" the carbon through a special heat process that creates thousands of pores. This increases the surface area available to attract contaminants. The carbon is then pressed together to create a fixed carbon block. This increased surface area increases the ability of our filter to attract and "trap" carbon-based contaminants as water passes through the carbon block. Various other organic contaminants also tend to adhere to the porous surface, so the carbon-block filter acts as a magnet for contaminants. No other in-home system reduces more possible health-effect contaminants than eSpring. To increase the sediment removal surface by four times more, a polypropylene prefilter is added to the system. How it works The eSpring Water Treatment System’s UV lamp, located in the centre of the cartridge, delivers up to 80 millijoules/cm² (units of measure) of UV light – enough to destroy more than 99.99% of bacteria and viruses that may be found in drinking water. Water always flows cool The tap water being diverted to the unit will activate a sensor to turn on the lamp instantly and automatically. Because the lamp is not on all the time, it does not waste energy or heat up the standing water; water always flows cool or at tap temperature. Isolating the UV lamp from the power source also provides greater safety and reliability. System is durable Eliminating hard-wired electrical connections between the unit and the cartridge makes replacing the cartridge simple and protects the system, making it more durable. With the electronic monitoring system, you never have to worry about changing filters too soon or too late, and the system is so advanced, it automatically “reads” the life of any cartridge inserted, whether that cartridge is new, half-used, or completed use. This eliminates the guesswork when it comes to determining the life of the cartridge. Again, it will also alert you if there is any problem. For the electronic monitoring system to track accurately, the power supply to the eSpring unit must be turned on at all times. It consumes very little electricity when it is on stand by mode. Normal operation When the system is filtering the water, you can see the water drops moving. Cartridge left with 10% life  You will hear a beep when you first turn to treated water setting. This indicates that the cartridge is left with 10% life and is due for replacement.
